Written in 1880 by Swiss author Johanna Spyri, the Heidi books are the best known works of Swiss literature. The story focuses on events in the life a young orphan sent to live with her grumpy grandfather in the Swiss Alps. Just as she is beginning to get used to her surroundings, Heidi is sent away from the tranquility of the mountains to tend to a sick cousin in the city. Much more than a children's story, the story is also a lesson on the nature of freedom. This edition is an English translation. The illustrated edition contains color illustrations by Maria L. Kirk.
I read Johanna Spyri's greatest novel Heidi on 2nd of Dec 2008. I always keep it in mind. How was i know about the novel? As i know we were watched that cartoon on Cartoon Network. I really feel awesome for that mountain range as Johanna wrote in the book.
I tell you all girls & boys must read this.
The story of an orphan girl growing and transforming peoples life like an angel has an unmatched beauty. When Spyri's tale is combined with the serene Anime, it magnifies the beauty even more. I loved the story when I was a Kid. I love it even today and will love it forever. My request to all readers, please take this amazing trip that awaits you inside the book... you will not regret it. It deserves no less than 5 out of 5!
I loved the book. There are 2 sequels to it. Heidi grows up and..I think the other one's called 'Heidi and (the?)Children' both of which were written by Charles Tritten.
Does anyone have any idea where I can get those 2 as free ebooks? I've checked Project Gutenberg and even esnips.. No luck 🙁
Hi Harini, I believe you can't find this book because it is still under copyright in most if not all countries. These sequels were published in 1938 and 1939 respectively. For the US, books originally published after 1922 are still under copyright. Australia and Canada have more lax copyright laws, so Project Gutenberg Australia or Canada might have the books, or if they don't they may be able to produce them in the future.
I have a Heidi book I received as a child for Christmas 1944. It has a brown cover but I can't find a date when it was printed.
It was my favorite book as a child.
Could you please tell me the year it was produced and how much it is worth today.
Thank you very much!!
