Isabella L. Bird

Isabella BirdIsabella Lucy Bird (October 15, 1831 - October 7, 1904) was a nineteenth-century English traveler, writer, and a natural historian. In 1854, Bird went to visit relatives in America during which time she detailed the journey anonymously in her first book The Englishwoman in America (1856). In 1872 she traveled again, first going first to Australia and then to Hawaii, her love for which prompted her second book. She then moved on to Colorado where she covered over 800 miles in the Rocky Mountains. Her letters to her sister comprised perhaps her most famous book, A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains.
