The next morning Jim Qwilleran was sore. His knee and back hurt and he felt stiff. He ran a tub of warm water and soaked, then toweled dry and got into a comfortable pair of sweat pants and pull over shirt. He was not even sure he matched and he did not care. He turned on the coffemaker and felt a little better when he took his first sip. Strong and hot, like he liked it. He fed the cats and got out some apple turnovers from a box. He had brought some sweets home when he bought some for Emma. After his second cup of coffee and two turnovers, he began to feel human. It was ten in the morning and he felt at loose ends. He called Mildred Hanstable and asked if she would drop by the apartment in Pickax, if she was going to be in the city that day. He explained Emma's move and the reason. Mildred made a comment about the tourist from down below must have been responsible and agreed she would check on Emma. He told her of his fall and his injury. With that accomplished, he sat in his most comfortable chair and took a nap.

Mildren Hanstable drove to Pickax and knocked on the apartment door. Emma wa surprised when she looked out the peephole in the door and saw her there. She let her in exclaiming, Mildred, how did you know I was here? Qwilleran called me this morning Emma and asked if I would check on you. Would you like to walk to Lois' and have lunch and we can catch up. The two women had a lovely lunch of turkey sanwiches and a green salad. Emma and Mildred discussed the break in at the lake house and the state of art in the public schools, both being retired teachers. Finally thier conversation turned to Qwill. They decided with him incapacitated, and because he had come to Emma's rescue twice, they should take him some lunch. They ordered another turkey sandwich, some fries and a large wedge od Lois' homemade
buttermilk pie. Mildred had informed Emma Qwill did not eat salad. emma decided at the last minute to get an additional lunch of meatloaf, mashed potato and peas for Qwill's dinner. She added a side dish of bread pudding. They walked back to the apartment and got into Mildred's car and headed for Qwill's condo. Wait, Emma calle dout to Mildred, this is the wrong way. Qwill lives at the lake. This is not the way to Mooseville!!!!

Qwilleran woke up from his nap, stiff and sore again. He had been in one position for to long. He grumbled at the sound of the door bell that had woken him up. It rang again. He got up and looked out the window, there on the sidewalk stood Mildred and Emma, with a take out bag in their hands. Oh no he said, whiping the drool from him mustache and rubbing crusty sleep from his eyes. He opened the door and the women broke out in large smiles. Well, hello Mildred said. Did we, uh....wake you? I was just resting my eyes Mildred, he grumbled. Won't you come in, he swung the door open. The ladies entered and Emma said, we brought the patient some lunch and dinner. And the patient thanks you, he said. Just then Emma saie, well hello koko, remember me from your foray down the beach last week? Meowww yeowwww koko said and rubbed her ankles, very uncharacteristically. Mildren set the food on the kitchen bar. Qwill caught his relection in the hall mirror and saw that his hair was standing on end, because he had napped with it still damp. He said, excuse me and padded upstairs, realizing that indeed, his pants were olive green with a torn knee and his shirt was blue with a stain on the chest. He shook his head. He was not exactly pleased for Emma to see him like this.
It was a much more tidy Qwill that came downt he stairs five minutes later.

Looks like you're getting in a groove. The content is really easy to visualize, and I like where the story is going.

Mildred was recounting to Qwill about the misunderstanding over where he lived. Emma interjected, I thought she had lost her mind! Or was kidnapping me she said in jest. Qwill laughed at the story and said, yes, I keep a lake house for summer and this is my permanent residence. I used to have a place in pickax as well, but lost it to a fire last year. Oh how dreadful, Emma commented. Mildred raised her eyebrow at the pair, thinking, "Qwill has not mentioned the fire, nor has anyone in his presence mentioned it in a year." Odd that he brought it up."
