I think I will try my hand at writing. Please don't laugh!
Fall came late to Moose County this year, 400 miles north of everywhere. Old timers said the wooly caterpiller had not yet gone underground, and predicted a slow coming winter, but when it came, a cold one. Winter was always cold in this part of the state, bordering Canada with a shared lake. A lone man walked down the beach with a protuberance on his shoulder. As he came closer, one could see it was an animal, a weasel.......no a skinny cat with strange markings. Jim Qwilleran, richest man in the northern US, and columist for the local newspaper, trudge through the damp sand with his siamese cat on his shoulder. A leash, dangled down, looping , swaying as he walked. The cat had thrown a cat fit to go for a walk.
They had been visiting the lakeshore to check up on the cabin he had inherited, along with millions if not billions of dollars over a decade ago. The oaks and maples were hanging on to their green leaves, reluctant this year to give way to gold or red.
Hey this is really hard.

Karen, I really like the start of your story. You have a way of making me visualize what you are describing. It just pops up in my head so clearly. I love it!!!

The cat let out a sudden piercing Yowwwwwwwww so close to the man's ear, he flinched, and the cat hopped down, pulling the leash from the man's grip. The cat ran ahead and began sniffing and digging in the sand, just at the edge of the woods. Yowwwwyowwwwwwww screamed the cat. The man caught up to the feline excavator and dropped to his knees.

Qwilleran, scooped up the cat just as he unearthed a dead beaver. The smell was atrocious! Qwill dragged the cat away, Koko, you will have to go to the clinic for a bath, come here, it is just a beaver. Yowwwwyowwwwww koko screamed.
Qwill drove straight to the veteranarian's office and dropped a sulking cat to be bathed. He headed back to the barn to feed Yumyum. When he walked into the barn without Koko, she gave a pitiful Nowwwwwwwwnowwwww. He fed her but she would not eat. He picked her up and coooed, my little darling, it is okay, the brute misbehaved and had to have a bath. He will be back soon. He sat down in his most comfortable chair and stroked her until she calmed and eventually got down and ate her food. Now for his own lunch he thought. He picked up the phone and called Fran Brody, his friend and interior designer of his residence he referred to as the "barn". It was an old stone octaginal apple barn, restored to a modern residence.

I am with Koko! I think there is something else there besides the dearly departed beaver.

He asked Fran to meet him for lunch at Lois' Lunchenette. She declined, and said she had a previous appointment. Qwill was not a man who liked to eat alone. He called the local newspaper next, called "The Moose County Something". He asked for his friend, Jr. Goodwinter. Jr. how would you like some company for lunch, we could meet at Lois'. Jr. said, "Qwill I am just headed out to Mooseville to cover a story. It seems that a body has washed ashore. Mind if I come along Jr., and afterwards we can dine at the Hotel. Okay, I'll stop by and pick you up. Qwill thought, the second trip to the lake in one day for me. As he got in Jr's red sports car, he said, I have to pick up Koko from the groomer by 4. No problem Qwill, if we run late, we can stop by on the way back to picax, and with that, Jr. sped around Park Circle and headed the car to Mooseville at a moderately high speed.

Karen, you started a great story! It would be lovely of you to finish it. After all, we can't have dead bodies washing ashore and KoKo not finishing his mission! Please? We fan fiction readers are eagerly awaiting the next installment.
