Have you ever noticed the hometown similarities between the Andy Griffith show of the 60s and The Cat Who?
1. Both small towns
2. Strong benevolent male central character
3. Conservative female love interest (one a school teacher, one a librarian
4. Goofy and colorful quirky supporting characters (Ernest T Bass, Otis, Barney, Floyd) (Derek, Amanda Goodwinter, Lois, )
5. Story lines about every day lives and challenges
6. On occasion cute kids
7. Moral to stories
8. Lots of senior citizens
9. Aunt Bea is a combo of Iris Cobb, Celia Robinson and the old lady who cleans the barn
10. I can picture polly looking like Helen Crump when she was younger
11. Mountain people of Little tater were like the darlin's who came from the hills and did not understand the city folk
12. Qwill and Andy always catching crooks
13. A local diner in both

Beth, let's not forget that Andy is the perennial bachelor! I enjoyed your comparison.

Oh I love this, comparing Mayberry to Pickax!
I often thought about the similarities of "Murder She Wrote" to "The Cat Who Books". If the Cat Who were to be made into a television show, it could be a combination of Murder Sher Wrote, The Andy Griffith Show, Northern Exposure and Matlock!

I wish the Cat Who stories would be made into a TV series, and I would like to see the mystery told in a couple/three shows.

We have Netflix on demand, and are able to get the wonderful James Herriott series, "All Creatures Great and Small" from BBC. I could visualize something similar for "The Cat Who..." It would be such a departure from what is currently offered on TV.

I think The Cat Who would make a wonderful television show. I see a book spanning 4 or 5 30 minute episodes. It would be current and topical. Imagine the audiences delight over the humor.....the spaceship and alien stuff in The Cat Who Saw Stars, the humor in Celia, a grandma, being an investigator, I would love it.15
