Here is how I would have finished it. The waitress broke the tension in the group, but taking orders. Mildren ordered a grilled chicken salad with ceasar dressing,Qwill ordered a steak sandwich with baked potato, Joe ordered a lobster roll with slaw, Bart said he would have the same, and Polly ordered a baked flounder, salad with honey/lemon dressing. The conversation began to flow more freely and Mildred told Polly about her latest project, a fundraiser for the new home for mentally challenged adults. (borrowed that from Anne's story) Polly spoke of her apartment redecoration in New york and Joe talked about the weather. Bart and Qwill talked baseball. After lunch, Joe and Polly drove back to the hotel and Polly asked Joe if he could find another home for Bootsie and Catta. She would not be taking them with her. She had said goodbye to them in her heart years before and her husband was allergic to cats. Joe said he would.

I didn't know this book was still going on, how wonderful for Polly and how sad for Qwill. I did my story of Qwill and Laura, don't you girls think it's time to fine someone for him and break him out of his rut. I think we all agree he needs a companion and lover or....dare I say it ...wife??

Later, as Polly flew home, she thought about the events she had participaed in during her time in Pickax. The meeting in Bart's offce, the reading of the will, the lunch at the Grist Mill. She and Qwill had exchanged 6 words the entire morning. He had been quiet. They had avoided making eye contact. She was so glad to be going home to her husband and new apartment. He had mentioned next weekend, looking for land to build a summer home by the shore. He has mentioned Long Island, Conneticut, Martha's Vineyard, Nantuccut..........he said they could look anywhere that pleased her. She thought of herself breathing the ocean breezes in a summer home, wintering in New York, seeing shows, museums, all the city had to offer. Then she thought of Qwill, stuck in little Pickax, living in the garage apartment and then the condo, talking to the same people, doing the same things, eating at the Grist Mill, over and over and over..........all the money in the world to do anything he wanted....she sighed. Good riddance to sad rubbish she thought, making a play on an old saying. She decided then and there she would never set foot in Moose County again.

That evening as Jim Qwilleran sat stroking Yumyum with Koko on the back of his chair, he thought about the woman in his life.......His wife's defection then mental illness, Joy.....they young love of his life being killed by her hayseed husband........an Polly..........the one woman he thought was settled and secure and staid.......defecting to Paris and marrying another man. He decided right then and there, he would never ever fall in love with another woman. Yowwwwwwww said Koko. The end
Joyce, do you mind I borrowed your summary of Qwill's former loves from your other forum to end my story. Praline

I think Praline's take on Polly underscores that she and Qwill did not belong together. Qwill had done a lot of traveling and moving when he was a reporter. I think he really likes having deep roots and being a part of something, a very big part of Moose County.
I also think he does not always understand women, which is why I liked the fictitious Laura story.
Polly assumed because Qwill has money, that meant he should be traveling around the world, or at least Paris, London and New York. That was her dream, but not his. On the other hand, he could have taken her on a nice trip for her vacation, and he never did. So that always made me wonder how committed Qwill really was to Polly. I always felt like she was trying to change him to suit her wishes.

Praline,
On the contrary. I'm complimented that you worked my comments about Qwill's former loves into your story. I also think that by having him vow that he would never fall in love again, he is bound to do just hat very shortly.
I think Coriannie was right about Polly and Qwill being unsuited for each other. Qwill reminds me of my husband in this respect. Bob is perfectly happy to spend time at home or close to home. Neither he, nor I like to travel much, and we take our greatest joy in making our home a refuge. In other words, we're really boring. Polly wouldn't understand us any more than she understood Qwill, because she has travel and big-city excitement in her blood. It's not that either of them is a bad person. They just weren't on the same mental track.

I am kind of sad you ended your story Praline. I want to hear about Polly's life in New York and all about her summer home out of the city.

I agree with Anne. I'd love to learn about how Polly lives in New York. When you have some time, maybe....

I met the sweetest young lady in the doctors office today. We were talking about the cat who books and I told her of this site. She expressed interest in ready my story "From Polly's Point of View". Her name was Katie. To my surprise she whipped out her cell phone and brought up the internet and opened this room and started reading the story from this site right there in the doctors office. We had a great discussion about it and alot of laughs. It was a delight to meet a young reader of the cat who. She said her mother turned her on the the books.

Thanks for evangelizing, Praline! Not only do our readers write for us, they advertise for us. What more could we ask.

I just finished Polly's Point of View. I really enjoyed it, and feel like the characters will continue. Thank you! I need to find Susan's story.
However, I do think Quill would have talked to Polly more than just 6 words. I would like to think he realized he had lost something really important and would want to make sure she was happy. Perhaps the story could continue with her remembering one more incident--an accidental moment together leaving the restaurant. He does have some kindness in him even though he has developed a prigginess.
I also think Quill felt he was not marriage material--that he contributed to his wife's problems and therefore, would never put himself in that position again.

Thanks Jacquline, for your interest and reading of my feeble attempts at resolving the "polly" issue in my own mind. It is nice to meet you and welcome to the forums.
