Here's a really nice review from The Guardian, just published http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/aug/05/secret-garden-frances-hodgson-burnett?CMP=twt_fd
What I found interesting is they say the book was first published for an adult audience and then forgotten. It wasn't until after Burnett's death that it was revived and marketed to children, then the popularity swelled.

Hi, Nicola. I think it would be worth your time to reread "The Secret Garden." The beauty of books intended for children, even darkly-themed ones like this, is the simplicity of narrative and the optimism of outlook. If you're looking for garden inspiration, may I also suggest "Elizabeth and Her German Garden" by Elizabeth von Arnim, also available here at GirlEBooks.

I must re-read this book. Especially this time of year when thoughts are turning towards the garden again. I do like that cover. A Little Princess is another favourite.
