I really enjoyed her characterizations of them--especially the opening scene where they are doing their habitual rounds of imposing on the hospitality of the locals. I'm very fond of Shirley, too, particularly Caroline Helstone. I read somewhere that Charlotte's husband, the Rev Arthur Bell Nicholls was delighted with her sending up of the clergy in this novel, which shows that he had a lively sense of humour. Lovely review.
