		<description>I skimmed over large portions of Lady Ludlow, particularly the flashback set during the French Revolution. I never did figure out what that part had to do with the story!

I think you will like North and South. Mary Barton is good too, but lacking some of the polish, as I think it was her first novel.</description>

		<description>I enjoyed the gentle humour of Cranford.  Less keen on Lady Ludlow.  Having just enjoyed her biog of Charlotte Bronte, I keep thinking I ought to read more Gaskell but I&#039;m not sure whether I want to tackle the &#039;industrial&#039; novels Mary Barton and North and South.</description>
